Prince Edward County Pumpkin Growers Association Rules & Prizes

1.Membership fee is $20.00 per year and allows you to enter a maximum of one vegetable in each category. Second entries will be weighed for official weights/ measurements and will be recorded as “Exhibition”. Second entries are not eligible for prize money.

2. The specimen must have been grown and cared for by the grower who must be present to win. Only 1 cash prize per member in each vegetable category, not including the Grower's Prizes, the Howard Dill Award, the 4 H Award and the Bill Greer Memorial Prize.

3. As members of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth,(GPC) their rules will apply for weighing pumpkin, squash and long gourds. Fruit weighed in other competitions will not be eligible for prizes.  See details  http://www.greatpumpkincommonwealth.com/rules.php

5. A Chief Judge will be appointed to make rulings . His or her decision will be final in all matters. The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) Rules will be used for all decisions.

6. Pumpkin entries may be orange, white and partially green. Squash entries must be 100% green, grey or blue as per GPC rules. Fruit entered in the heaviest pumpkin/ squash categories will be of the Atlantic Giant Variety (Cucurbita Maxima). These are also described as soft stemmed pumpkins. Prizewinner and Big Max pumpkins will also be entered in this category.
New this year is the Giant Field Pumpkin category. These will be hard Stemmed pumpkins (Cucurbita pepto) and are characterized as having very hard, dark green stems. Examples of these varieties are Connecticut field, Howden and Phat Jack.

7. Specimens must be sound, healthy and undamaged. Splits or holes into the cavity will disqualify and entry for an official weight status and prizes and the Chief Judge reserves the right to open prizewinning fruit for inspection. No foreign matter to be included in the weighing.

8. Weights will be recorded in pounds and tenths. Prizewinners within 1 pound will be re-weighed if necessary.

9. Prizes will be determined by the PECPGA Committee.

10. Upon entering a pumpkin or squash, the grower agrees to donate 100 seeds from each of the winning entries if requested for the annual fundraising seed sale.
