The first ostriches arrived in October and have been a head turning event from the day they arrived.  We began with one breeder pair and five three month old chicks. Slowly but steadily we increased our breeders and chicks, purchased the hatcher and incubator in 1998 and have been gradually increasing our stock.  Ostrich yields a high protein, low fat, low cholesterol, iron-rich superior quality meat as well as providing extremely durable and supple high quality leather.

The thought never occurred to us that this unusual livestock would be of such great interest to everyone but there have been some 6,000 visitors to the farm since the beginning.  The South Bay Ostrich Ranch is one of the few farms which provides an opportunity to observe the complete cycle of ostrich farming.  Daily tours are conducted during the summer months including incubating, hatching, viewing of chicks and other variously sized ostrich from 8 inches to 8 feet and weighing as much as 400 pounds.
