Driving in Canada

In Canada, U.S. state drivers’ licences are valid for varying periods of time, depending on the province or territory you are visiting. The 1949 International Driving Permit is also valid, but must be accompanied at all times by the visitor’s state or national driver’s licence. By Air

Prince Edward County is conveniently located between three international airport centres.

Toronto Pearson International Airport, 120 miles west of Prince Edward County. www.lbpia.toronto.on.ca

Ottawa International Airport, 163 miles northeast of Prince Edward County, www.ottawa-airport.ca

When leaving Pearson International Airport by car, it is best to avoid morning (7:30 to 9:30 am) and evening (3 to 7 pm) rush hours on all major routes. Expect delays on Highway 401 (the major east-west artery) 24 hours a day. Allow plenty of time to make flights, especially on Fridays. Shuttle service from Pearson International airport to Prince Edward County, return, is also available from a few Picton area taxi services. Phone 613-476-2716 for details. By Train

VIA Rail is the famed cross-country train network linking Toronto with cities east and west. VIA operates from Union Station in downtown Toronto at Front and Bay Streets (one street west of Yonge), offering the kind of train service reminiscent of bygone days. By Bus

All major coaches operate out of the Metro Toronto Coach Terminal, and handles buses arriving from destinations across the province, country and the U.S. The terminal is located at 610 Bay St., at Bay and Dundas in the city's core, just one block west of the Eaton Centre. (416) 393-7911.
