Overview
-
PEC.on.ca (also known as PEC.travel) site is a community effort,
endorsed by the Prince Edward County Tourism Development Alliance.
-
The PEC Advisory Group, comprised of private businesses from several
sectors, is responsible for policies.
-
Features in the site are developed with input from Prince Edward County
businesses.
-
The site is sponsored by InfoLink Web Site Development, in
co-ordination with Taste the County (DMO Designated Marketing
Organization), the Economic Development Office, and the Chamber of
Commerce.
-
The site represents approximately 2,000 local businesses/organizations
and 250+ events.
- The
site was developed in 1996, and has received several awards and
recognitions since that time.
The
Objectives
The objectives of the site are to:
- provide
a cohesive one-stop presence for Prince Edward County community
& tourism information,
- promote
Prince Edward County's products & services to global markets,
- provide
a cost-effective medium for local businesses to be represented on the
world wide web,
- contain
current, useful information in a manner that is easy to use.
Growth
& Development
PEC.on.ca
has adapted continually to the evolving needs of local businesses,
changing travel trends, and to changes in technology.
The
site is self-sustaining for day-to-day operations. Larger initiatives
have been partially funded through the assistance of Taste
the County™ and PELA
CFDC. The Chamber
of Tourism & Commerce manages the many information
requests that come in via the site. Volunteers
have also been helpful in their contributions of photos and content. In
2008, an accommodation availability chart was developed, assisted by
the County Campground and Cottage Association.
The
next phases of development will include accessibility on wireless
devices, and interactive mapping.
